MISSION STATEMENT

Adopted by the Community Greenways Advisory Committee at a meeting in February 2024.
The mission of the Waterford Township Community Greenways Advisory Committee is to protect existing and promote the expansion of greenway spaces (non-motorized recreational pathways) throughout Waterford Township. A major focus is on the Riverwalk, to preserve and enhance this centerpiece, while connecting it with greenway space networks throughout the community, which will further link into greenway spaces in adjoining communities.

The Community Greenways Advisory Committee will execute this mission by:

1. Advising: studying reasonable needs for existing and planning future greenway spaces, and advising the Waterford Township Board of its recommendations

2. Oversight: periodically reviewing the condition of the Riverwalk and other greenway spaces to provide the Facilities and Operations group within the Township Department of Public Works with safety and general maintenance requests, and maintenance and capital expenditure budget recommendations

3. Seeking funding: searching for and assisting with applications for grants for greenway space improvements and expansion, including Township greenway space related budget recommendations

4. Increasing awareness: educating the community on the health and connectivity benefits of greenway spaces by creating, enhancing and maintaining public interest through promotional activities and fundraising events

5. Collaborating: to promote and sustain greenway spaces by closely collaborating with Township government teams and the Board, Friends of the Greenways members, community organizations and schools, and interested and involved community members
