Waterford Township Public Library provides information to the community through displays, handouts, flyers, posters, and exhibits. Though the Library may be providing space for a display, handout, flyer, poster or exhibit, this does not mean that the Library endorses the activity and/or information. Final authority for all materials and activities related to this policy rests with the Library Director or an appropriate designee.
Exhibits & Displays
- Space is available for non-profit organizations, community groups, and governmental agencies
- Library reserves the right to limit the size, frequency and timing of displays
- All exhibits and displays are offered to the library free of charge on a volunteer basis
- Commercial displays are not accepted
- Exhibit case and display area space is available by reservation through the Library's Administrative Assistant.
- Library assumes no liability in the event of damage, destruction, theft of a display.
- A credit line will be included in all displays and exhibits
Handouts/flyers & Bulletin Boards
- Library distributes non-commercial handouts/flyers from non-profit groups as well as Library-related flyers on services and programs
- In addition, community bulletin boards are available for civic, cultural, educational and non-partisan election information
- Notices of a personal nature are not accepted (i.e., lost/missing notices, space-for-rent flyers, garage sale signs, etc.)
- If space becomes limited, priority will be given to Waterford area groups and organizations that are free and open to the public
- The Library reserves the right to remove items from the bulletin board as deemed inappropriate
Petitioning, Solicitation or Distribution of Literature
- Petitioning, solicitation, and similar activities are prohibited inside the library – failure to comply will result in suspension of library privileges up to and including banning from the building
- Such activities may occur outside the library, in defined areas, if they do not obstruct access or interfere with operations
- Requesting funds for themselves or selling items on the library property for fundraisers is prohibited with the exception of library sponsored activities.
- These activities are not endorsed by the Library even though they are taking place on the grounds of the Library
