Children's Sensory Garden

Library entrance
Thanks to the dedicated work of volunteers who are passionate gardeners or have a passion for learning about gardening, the beds at the Library entrance were transformed into a Children's Sensory Garden in the fall of 2015.

In 2019, we added a Rain Garden, giving us a new type of garden to plan and maintain. It also solved a drainage problem on the walkway at the Library's entrance. Plants chosen are native to Michigan and prefer a wet environment.

Plans for 2021 include replanting the islands in the parking lot to provide more shade.

Library Garden Club

You are welcome to join the Library Garden Club to help maintain these gardens and, possibly, help develop other gardening projects on the Library's grounds.

Janet Macunovich, Master Gardener, whose expertise has been a foundational element of this project is interested in continuing with our group, providing guidance and leading educational seminars where we can learn from each other.
