Residential Rental Certification

About the Ordinance

Waterford Township has enacted a Rental Certification Ordinance that applies to all single and multiple family residential properties. The ordinance requires the owners of each residential rental property to register those properties with the Township.   All rental property owners are required to pay an annual fee based upon the adopted Fee Schedule.

Rental Registration Requirements

For each rental property, a completed Registration Form must be submitted with the required registration fee (as listed on the form).  Please note:  If the property owner does not reside within Michigan, a Michigan based local agent must be established.

Inspections

Rental properties must comply with the Rental Housing Standards. Residential rental properties are subject to inspection upon registration.  Recertification inspection and sign affidavit will be required every 4 years thereafter.
