1. What is the purpose/benefits of an accurate water consumption reading?

Accurate water meters are extremely important because it ensures that everyone is billed fairly for water actually used, ensures that the cost of producing water is recovered and helps identify areas in the system or houses or businesses that may have leaks.

2. What is an estimated bill?

If the water department calls for a reading or leaves a notice for a reading, it is essential that you call in a reading because you avoid an "estimated bill." An estimated bill does not accurately reflect your water consumption. Consequently, when an actual reading is garnered in the future it will be significantly higher. The goal is to allow the customer the most accurate bill possible. Sometimes this involves you providing us with an inside water meter reading enabling us to provide the most updated and accurate bill possible.

3. What are the charges for after hours service?

Any water requested to be turned on/off after regular business hours will be subject to a $30 turn off and $30 turn on fee.

4. What will it cost to fill a swimming pool?

Most swimming pool volumes are listed in gallons. The water department charges customers based on cubic feet. There are 7.5 gallons in one cubic foot. This is to say, 750 gallons in 100 cubic feet.

Example: (Example based on water passing through the main domestic water meter).

10,000 gallons is 1333 cubic feet. (10,000 divided by 7.5 = 1,333 cubic feet).
13 times $1.50 (water charge) = $19.50
13 times $1.85 (sewer charge) = $24.05
Total = $43.55

*It is these total amounts that would appear on the customers quarterly usage bills. These amounts would be added to your regular quarterly bill. It would also be advisable to use a separate sprinkler meter for filling a swimming pool, so that the sewer charges can be saved.

5. What happens if water/sewer bills are delinquent?

There is a transfer of all delinquent water/sewer accounts made in the middle of August every fiscal year. Any water, sewer, or assessment bill that is delinquent for 90 days will be transferred to the same corresponding year’s winter property taxes.

All delinquent accounts that are subject to tax transfers are also charged an administrative surcharge of 10%. We strongly encourage you to keep your account up to date. Please notify the water department if you have any questions regarding your account balance and the respective due dates of your water/sewer bills.
