1. How do I contact the Fire Department?

For all emergencies immediately dial 911. For non-emergency information, the Administrative Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The department's phone number is 248-673-0405.

2. Are open fires permitted in the Township?

The only open fires permitted in the Township are campfires for recreational purposes. Prior to any campfire, a permit must be obtained from the Waterford Fire Department. Permits can be applied for online. Anyone burning outside of the rules or without a permit may be issued a citation.

3. Does the Fire Department offer fire safety related educational programs?

Yes, we offer a wide range of Fire Safety Programs through our Fire Prevention Office - everything from station tours to fire safety seminars for preschool children, to fire safety presentations for senior citizens. Contact the Fire Prevention Division for any requests of this nature at 248-673-0405.

4. Does the Fire Department offer CPR or First Aid classes?

Yes, Fire Department offers CPR and Basic First Aid classes the second Saturday of every month in our state-of-the art training facility. 5. Why does a fire engine respond to medical emergencies?

To provide the fastest patient care possible. There are 9 fire stations strategically located in Waterford Township and the City of Pontiac all equipped with fire engines and paramedic trained personnel. These paramedics can arrive at the scene and begin stabilization of the patient prior to the arrival of the paramedic unit.

6. How many alarms does the Fire Department respond to every day?

The Fire Department currently responds to approximately 14,250 alarms annually and continues to increase. That is roughly 39 alarms per day.

7. What is required to become a fire fighter for Waterford Township?

The Township office of Fiscal and Human Resources, will provide details for employment with the Fire Department. They can be reached by calling 248-674-6252.
 

8. Does the Fire Department use telephone solicitations to raise funds?

No. The Fire Department is funded with money from the Township's general fund and designated Fire Department millages and a Public Safety Special Assessment District.
