Waterford Township introduces Southeast Michigan ParkFinder
2,600+ parks: Search playgrounds, ball fields, beaches, trails, monuments, golf courses, and more
Waterford Township, in partnership with
SEMCOG, the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments, is excited to announce the launch of
Southeast Michigan ParkFinder, a new mobile app that makes it easier than ever to explore recreation opportunities throughout the seven-county region!
"ParkFinder can help you learn more about the amenities at Drayton Plains Nature Center as well as parks throughout the entire region," said Alison Swanson, Parks and Recreation Superintendent. "It enables residents and visitors to more easily find and experience the broad range of recreation assets in our region's park system.”
Available free-of-charge on Apple's
App Store and the
Google Play store, the app enables users to search from over 2,600 parks within Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties. This interactive map is the result of regional cooperation and features everything from neighborhood playgrounds to state and national parks.
Users can search from over 50 options, including park size, type, location, and available amenities. Categories of parks features, which each include multiple options, are trails and fitness, sports and games, water recreation, outdoor recreation, winter recreation, and amenities and facilities.
BackgroundParkFinder was made possible by data collected from Southeast Michigan communities with five-year recreation plans currently on file with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. ParkFinder is intended for informational use only. Links to parks agency websites and Google Maps are provided for more information, including programs, hours, regulations, and directions.
