Winter 2025 Waste Removal Update

Waterford Township residential curbside collection customers will continue to receive weekly services under a new 5-year contract with Priority Waste beginning April 1, 2026.

This newsletter features important changes to the program that will increase efficiencies and continue to provide an exceptional value for Waterford customers.

In this newsletter, we will highlight some of the important changes to be aware of, answer some of the most frequently asked questions, and provide resources for more information.

We’re excited to partner with Priority Waste on the new contract, keeping your collection day the same, offering universal recycling for all customers under a single rate for everyone, moving to annual billing placed on residential Winter tax bills, and continuing to offer weekly unlimited yard waste collection in season, and weekly cart plus collection.

RECYCLING FOR EVERYONE - All Waterford Customers will now have access to convenient universal curbside recycling included in the annual rate. If you didn’t previously recycle, a new cart will be delivered to your residence in the last two weeks of March 2026. VALUE RATE - Under the single annual rate, all residents receive the same service at a set price. There’s no need to sign up for discounts as they have been replaced by a single reduced rate for all customers. BILLED ON WINTER TAXES - Under the new contract beginning April 1, 2026, a single annual rate will be billed to all single-family residential customers on your annual Winter tax bill. Quarterly direct billing ends with your January - March 2026 invoice due December 31, 2025. If you have current billing concerns, call (586) 228-1200.
5 year rate schedule begins April 1, 2026. Year one is $210 and each year of the contract thereafter increases by 3%.

universal recycling information

Beginning April 1, 2026, all Waterford residential customers will have access to convenient curbside collection of recycling. While customers can no longer “opt out” of curbside recycling, universal recycling provides all customers with full-service each week at the curb for one low price, helping to keep the community clean and sustainable with a focus on value and efficiency.

Priority Waste will soon be mailing further details about recycling to each residence in Waterford, so keep an eye on your U.S. mailbox for more information, or visit www.waterfordmi.gov/trash where the mailer will soon be posted.

Can I pay my bill directly instead of having it placed on my taxes? No. Under the contract beginning April 1, 2026, all Waterford customers will be billed for residential waste collection on their Winter taxes. Can I refuse to take the new recycling cart? Yes, you may refuse the new recycling cart. However, all Waterford customers will be paying a set annual fee that includes recycling service. Refusing to take the cart does not opt a resident out of paying for recycling services. Residents who refuse a recycling cart during initial delivery, then request to have one delivered later will be subject to a $15 delivery fee. I’m new to Waterford. How do I sign up? Visit www.waterfordmi.gov/trash for the most up-to-date information!
