Friends of the Library 7th Annual “Book It” 5k Family Fun Run/Walk
Saturday, May 3rd, 8:30a – 12:00p, Warming House on Civic Center Campus
Join us for the 7th Annual fundraiser hosted by Waterford Friends of the Library to support the Waterford Township Public Library. There will be a 5k timed run/walk and a shorter Family Fun Run/Walk. Pets are welcome to participate with their owners. Both routes are on sidewalks and paved roads.

Four New Online Resources
We are happy to now offer access to four products that you won’t want to miss. These are accessible at the library and remotely and are free with your Waterford Township Public Library card. We have many more databases available to you; here’s what’s new:
Gale Legal Forms – This library of legal forms includes thousands of Michigan-specific, federal, and general forms covering hundreds of legal subjects and issues including: divorce, real estate, taxes, wills & estates, and more. In addition to forms, it also provides the user with an attorney directory, legal definitions, legal q & a, and many other helpful resources.
JUST FOR KIDS Access Video – This database boasts thousands of videos, songs and audio titles, interactive activities and more, all in a kid-safe environment, vetted and ad-free. Parents – help your little ones find their favorites and discover new favorites from this easy-to-use appealing design. Here you will find videos like Franklin the Turtle, Arthur, Sesame Street, Reading Rainbow and so much more.
MailBox Plus – This resource is for educators, parents, homeschooling families, and others who are seeking support and content for a variety of themes. Contents include worksheets, lesson plans, craft activities, flash cards, and more. There are educational activities for every day of the year. Avoid summer slump!
Udemy – This online learning platform has 25,000+ up-to-date online video courses in the areas of business, tech, and personal development. Over 7000 of the courses are taught by native speakers in more than a dozen languages.

April is Financial Literacy Month
The Children’s Department is partnering with $mart Money MI Kids Read to distribute the book Save It! by Cinders McLeod to families with children in grades preschool-grade 2, while supplies last. We’ll begin by passing them out to families who attend our Saturday Storytime, Reptile Reads, and during one of the 3-year-old storytimes. One per family.
It’s Tax Season!
For those still using paper forms, a limited supply of tax forms are available at the library in the circulation lobby. We have the Federal 1040 and 1040SR instructions and Michigan forms. You can also access forms here:

Please note: Weekly Storytimes and regular monthly Saturday programs, including Saturday Storytimes and LEGO® Club, are going on hiatus after April while our librarians prepare for Summer Reading:
Weekly Storytimes: January 14th through April 30th
Drop-in storytimes are 30 minutes long and include a variety of stories, songs, fingerplays, and other activities. Choose the age-appropriate session from those listed below. No registration required.
NOTE: Caregivers must attend and are encouraged to participate.

Bring out the poet in you by creating magnetic prose, then form the words into poetry art. Recommended for ages 8-12.

LEGO® Club
Saturday, April 26th, 10:15a – 11:00a OR 11:30a – 12:15p - Storytime/Craft Room
Children meet for about 45 minutes to create their own free-form LEGO® structures (we supply the LEGO® blocks). They are displayed in the library lobby until the next meeting. Then the students can make new structures. We have two class times in the morning for each day. Please come for only one of these times, either 10:15a-11:00a or 11:30a-12:15p. Recommended for ages 5 and up. No registration required.
Read to a Dog
Saturday, April 26h, 1:00p-2:00p Registration begins Saturday, April 1st
Wendell and Scout from Therapy Dogs International, along with their handler, Robert, will be visiting the library so students can read to them. Sign-up to read to a dog for a 15 minute session.
May the Fourth Be With You

Enjoy everything Star Wars. Make a "lightsaber", try astro art, and enter a droid drawing. Refreshments include wookie cookies and padawan punch. Recommended for Star Wars fans. No registration required.
Free Comic Book Day

The adult, teen, and children’s departments are offering free comic books today. Limits of 1 to 2 comic books per person while supplies last.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten
For children ages Infant to 5 years. We are a participating library in this year-round early literacy program. Pick up a reading chart and book list from the children’s department. Read to your young child. For every 100 books that you read together, we will put your child’s name on our “Wall of Fame”, and they get to pick out a book to keep. When you have reached the 1,000-book milestone, you get a book bag.

The Evening Book Discussion meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month (excluding August) at 7:00 pm in the Conference Room unless otherwise noted. Books are available at the Adult Reference Desk. No registration required.

eBooks Help

Do you need help accessing all the free digital content the library has to offer? Register for a 30-minute one-on-one session, and bring your device and questions for help with downloading books, audiobooks, movies, music, and magazines to your smartphone or tablet. Registration required
Movie Matinee: Call for title
Thursday, April 17th, 2:00p – 4:00p - Community Room
Join us for free afternoon movie matinees. Most titles run between 90 to 120 minutes. Popcorn and beverages will be provided, but you may also bring your own snacks and drinks. No alcoholic or uncovered beverages. Due to our licensing agreement, we are not allowed to advertise the movie titles outside of the library. Cookbook Club
Wednesday, April 23rd, 7:00p – 8:00p – Community Room
Select and prepare a recipe from the month's cookbook, and we’ll gather for a potluck to discuss the cookbook. Copies of the book will be available at the Adult & Teen Services Reference Desk for checkout. Bring all you need to serve the dish. Paper plates, plasticware, napkins, and water will be provided. Registration required. This club meets the fourth Wednesday of each month (there are no summer meetings).
For the potluck, there's no need to double or triple the recipe. Prepare only the number of servings the recipe makes. We'll have plenty of food to sample.
