The Friends of the Library accepts gently used books in SALEABLE condition on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00a - 1:00p. Donations will be considered for use in the Library's collection as well as merchandise included at the Friends Used Book Sales.

Saturday Storytime: Spooky Stories
Saturday, October 7, 10:30a – 11:15p, Storytime/Craft Room. No registration required.
Students in grades preschool through second grade are invited to join us for Halloween stories and crafts. Ages 4-8.
Weekly Storytimes through November 15
Drop-in storytimes are 30 minutes long and include a variety of stories, songs, fingerplays, and other activities. Choose the age-appropriate session from those listed below. No registration required.
NOTE: Children must be accompanied by a parent or a caregiver.

Where’s the Sun?

It’s a solar eclipse day! We should be able to view a partial eclipse in our area around 10:35am. We have projects and special glasses for the children today. Ages 6-12.
Lego Club
Saturday, October 28 - Storytime/Craft Room.
Recommended ages 5 and up. No registration required.
Students meet to create their own Lego structure. We have two class times in the morning. Please come to one of these sessions: 10:15-11:00 am OR 11:30 am-12:15 pm.

TeenTober Bingo
October 1 – October 31
We’re celebrating Teens and libraries this month! Play TeenTober Bingo to earn small prizes throughout October and qualify to win an Amazon gift card in a final drawing. Pick up your Bingo sheets at the Adult Reference desk or print it off from the Teen Programs page at https://www.waterfordmi.gov/594/Teen-Programs beginning October 1st. Bingo sheets must be turned in by November 4th to be entered into the drawing. No registration required.
Teen Take & Make Kit – Mummy Pops
October 14 - 28. Teen Area. Registration required to reserve your kit.
Kids in 6th through 12th grades can pick up a Mummy Pop Take & Make Kit. Instructions and most ingredients & supplies will be included in the kit. All you have to do is pick up the kit and then you can make this snack in the comfort of your own home and at your own pace. Supplies are limited, so these kits are reserved for kids in 6th through 12th grades only. One kit per person.

Lisa Ludwinski, Owner of Sister Pie
Tuesday, October 3, 6:30p-7:30p. Community Room. Registration required.
Author Lisa Ludwinski, owner and head baker of Sister Pie, will talk about her background and the history of her phenomenally successful bakery. She’ll also discuss her cookbook, Sister Pie: The Recipes & Stories of a Big-Hearted Bakery in Detroit, which was featured as a Michigan Notable Book. Cookies from Sister Pie will be served as refreshments. Copies of Sister Pie will be available for sale.
Mysterious Michigan

In keeping with the spooky season, author and paranormal researcher Amberrose Hammond will talk about Michigan’s mysterious and sometimes supernatural history including enigmatic mediums, murders, monsters, and more. Books will be available for purchase after the presentation.

Join us after hours on Halloween to watch the horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, starring Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, and Johnny Depp. This supernatural slasher movie is rated R and runs about 90 minutes. We’ll start with an overview of Excel, and go over how to enter and edit data in cells, formatting cells, and basic formulas such as addition and subtraction. Basic computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Word and/or other Microsoft Office application(s) are prerequisites for this class.

Waterford Genealogical Society (WGS)

Genealogy is the study of family ancestries and histories. The (WGS) meets on the 1st Wednesday afternoon of the month in the Library’s Community Room. All are welcome to attend.

The Waterford Genealogical Society will meet online via Zoom. All are welcome to attend. If you wish to attend you must register and enter your email address so we can send you the zoom link. Please register before 5pm of the day of the meeting. Julia Hanneman-Schoenbach runs the meeting.
Waterford Writers Workshop
Saturday October 7 & October 21, 11:00a-2:00p, Conference Room. Ages 16 or older. No registration required.
The Waterford Writers Workshop is a forum where serious writers share their work and receive and provide constructive, supportive critiques of each member’s writing. Each writer will email their work (6 pages of 12pt font, double-spaced prose or two poems) to other members at least one week prior to the meeting date. Those attending the workshop will be prepared to discuss their own writing, as well as providing edits and suggestions on other member’s writing. The workshop will meet on the first and third Saturday of each month, 10am-1pm, in the conference room of the Waterford Library. Our goal is to write, share, and develop polished prose and poetry. To evoke, provoke, and inspire. To take chances, be ambitious, write confidently, and celebrate the art of the written word and literature in general. Registration is not required. Anyone interested in joining needs only to attend an initial meeting. Participants must be 16 or older.
Library Garden Club
Wednesday, October 11, 4:30p – 8:30p, Library Gardens & Community Room. No registration required.
Both beginners and experienced gardeners welcome.
- Work Bee 4:30p-6:00p – in the gardens at the Library entrance. If you don’t have your own favorite gardening gear, we will be happy to loan you tools to help out. We plan to do the big shifting of plants and adding soil to the beds this month.
- Seminar 7:30p-8:00p – Gail Morrell, professional gardener and formerly a senior instructor at the Michigan School of Gardening, will present "Learning from the Past" to share with us the things she has learned this year and recently about plants, problems, tools or techniques.
