If the tax bill is supposed to be mailed directly to the homeowner and you have not received your bill by the second week of July, please contact our office at (248) 674-6220.

Summer taxes are payable July 1, 2021 through September 14, 2021.
Please refer to the front and back of statement for detail tax information.

CASH PAYMENTS
For those considering making their payment in cash, for safety, efficiency and Township savings, payment by check or cashier’s check is preferred.

PARTIAL PAYMENTS
Partial tax payments are accepted.

SUMMER DEFERRED TAXES
Summer taxes may be deferred until February 14, 2022, if your 2020 total household income was less than $40,000 and you meet state qualifications.  A copy of your 1040A Federal Tax Form or MI-1040CR needs to accompany your application.    Applications must be received by September 14, 2021.    See back of tax bill for requirements or township website at http://waterfordmi.gov/Departments/Treasurer/Tax-Information/Deferred-Taxes.aspx.

DETROIT P.O. BOX
Why are tax bills mailed to a Post Office Box in Detroit?  Waterford Township’s bank, JP Morgan Chase, located at 4750 Dixie Hwy, provides us with lockbox service.   The bank retrieves the payments from the PO Box, processes the payments and deposit funds directly into our bank account.  The lockbox service center is located in Detroit.   Tax bills can be mailed to the P.O. Box in Detroit or directly to the Treasurer’s Office at 5200 Civic Center Dr, Waterford MI 48329.

ONLINE PAYMENT THROUGH YOUR BANK
If you initiate your payment through your financial institution, a paper check will be issued and mailed to the Township.         Please Read the Following:

  • Schedule your payment to be delivered at least 10 business days prior to September 14 to avoid a late payment and interest and/or penalties.
  • Payment may fail to be delivered to Treasurer’s Office if a P.O. Box address is used for an online payment; please use the township address.   See below for township address.
  • Payments not received by the due date will incur interest and/or penalties.

News from the Waterford DPW

Attention all Lawn, Landscape and Garden
Enthusiasts:

As you start planning your spring landscape and gardening projects, consider having a second water meter installed. This second meter is used to register the outdoor water use for your property; measuring the outdoor water use separately allows DPW to not bill sewer portion for water that is not entering the sewer system. The sewer cost is the largest portion of your quarterly bill and having a second meter installed could provide significant cost savings depending on your outdoor water habits.

Current cost for a 5/8” sprinkler meter is $185 and quarterly charges are $13.03 for the first 1,000 cubic feet of use and $2.91/100 cubic feet over 1,000. Questions about past water use, purchasing a sprinkler meter or to schedule an appointment please call 248-674-2278.

Water Quality Report
Waterford Township DPW has released the 2020 Annual Water Quality Report. DPW prides itself on providing our customers with safe, quality drinking water and is proud to present our 22nd Drinking Water Quality Report. This report includes details regarding where our drinking water comes from, what it contains and how it compares to standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.

To view the report visit www.waterfordmi.gov/waterqualityreport or you can request a copy to be mailed by calling our office at 248-674-2278.

Cross-Connection and Backflow Prevention
Waterford Township DPW has contracted HydroCorp to manage the township Cross-Connection Control program. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE), formerly Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), requires DPW to have all commercial and residential accounts inspected for proper backflow prevention to maintain the safety of our water supply.

HydroCorp inspectors will inspect residential properties every ten years and commercial properties either yearly or every five years depending on the property’s use and plumbing fixtures. These inspections are included in the contract between DPW and HydroCorp so there is no cost to homeowners.

In addition to the visual inspections done by HydroCorp, any property with a testable backflow prevention device will receive a testing notice to verify the backflow prevention device is functioning properly. Testing of backflow prevention devices is required annually for commercial properties and every three years for residential properties. Testing of backflow prevention devices need to be performed by a certified backflow prevention tester, a list of certified testers can be found at www.watercustomer.com. Cost for these tests are the responsibility of the property owner.

Questions regarding the Cross-Connection Control program or backflow prevention assemblies and testing can be directed to HydroCorp at 800-690-6651 or 248-250-5000.
