CENSUS 2020 GET COUNTED

WELCOME TO THE 2020 CENSUS!

Everyone Counts
The goal of this census is to count every living person in the U.S. just once and in the right place. We need your help to make sure everyone in Waterford gets counted!

Census Data Are Important!
The U.S. Constitution requires a census every 10 years. The results are used to determine the number of seats each state has in Congress, draw boundaries for voting districts, and determine how more than $675 billion in federal funding is spent in communities each year.

Taking Part is Your Civic Duty
Completing the census is required; it is a way to participate in our democracy and say "I count!"

Your Information is Confidential
Federal law protects your responses. Your answers can only be used to produce statistics and cannot be used against you by any government agency or court.

Reminder: Only Flush The 3 P's - Pee, Poo, Paper!

The Waterford Township Department of Public Works reminds residents to flush only the 3 P's in their toilets. No masks, gloves, diapers, personal wipes (flushable or otherwise), disinfecting wipes, paper towel, etc. - just standard toilet tissue, urine and feces.

While there's no good time for a plumbing emergency, current limitations due to the COVID-19 pandemic make dealing with emergencies even more trying for homeowners and contractors alike.

Help those pipes out by adhering to the simple 3 P's guideline.

Don't Miss: Tips to Help Protect
Our Drinking Water Supply

Did You Know?
Did you know that 100% of Waterford Township’s drinking water comes from underground aquifers?  An aquifer is an underground layer of permeable rock, sand, or gravel that contains water in sufficient quantities to supply a well.  The Township owns and operates 19 drinking water wells that supply water to its residents. In addition, there are numerous active private wells within the Township.

Waterford Township is dedicated to the preservation and protection of water quality.  In order to prevent groundwater pollution, the Township has an ongoing Wellhead Protection Program that is funded with the help of grant monies from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).

What is Wellhead Protection?
The Wellhead Protection Program was initiated by EGLE to assist local communities in protecting their water resource if they utilize groundwater for their municipal drinking water supply systems.

Michigan’s groundwater is used for drinking water by nearly half of the state’s population.  In addition, groundwater is utilized for irrigation and industrial purposes and contributes to the economy and unique quality of life in our Great Lakes State.

What You Can Do

  • If you own a septic tank, have your tank pumped out and inspected at least once every 5 years;
  • Never flush chemicals down the toilet or pour down a drain;
  • Always recycle chemicals like gasoline, motor oil, kerosene, insecticides, poisons, and paint; and
  • Never dump chemicals onto the ground.

To find out more, please visit the Township’s wellhead protection web page at: https://waterfordmi.gov/269/Wellhead-Protection-Program, or call the Public Works Department at: (248) 674-2278.
