Library Operations during Closure

Staffing

In compliance with the shelter-in-place order library staff are now working from home until that order expires. Staff are working remotely Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm and will do what we can to answer questions left on voicemail: phone (main number = 248-674-4831, adult desk = 248-618-7693, children’s desk = 248-618-7692) and by email (wateref@waterfordmi.gov ). 

Library Cards

We are currently allowing residents of Waterford or Lake Angelus to register for a library card by calling 248-674-4831 (press 2 for account information) or emailing jdeahl@waterfordmi.gov. The following information is needed:

  • First, Middle, and Last name. Nicknames or shortened versions of your legal name cannot be used.
  • Driver’s license or State ID number
  • Birthdate
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Telephone number (If this number is for a cell phone, please include the name of your service provide to receive text notification when items are due or ready for pick up).

Registering cards sight unseen is not our standard practice. Therefore, any card registered at this time will be issued with an expiration date of 7/14/2020. To renew your account for our standard three-year lifecycle, please visit the library with a valid ID showing your Waterford or Lake Angelus address once our regular hours resume.

Library Card Number and PIN

If you are in need of your library card number or PIN, please call 248-674-4831 and press 2 for account information. Staff will release your account number or reset your PIN after you have verified your account information.

Overdue Fees

Overdue fines are suspended at this time.

Renewing Materials Currently Checked Out 

All materials have a MAY 1 due date, so renewing your items is unnecessary at this time.

Returning Materials

The book return is now closed. All materials have a MAY 1 due date. Overdue fines are suspended until further notice. Please keep materials at home until the library opens again.

Tax Forms

The supply of tax forms will not be available until we re-open. IRS Notice 2020-18 has been issued that grants any individual, trust, estate, partnership, association, company or corporation with a Federal income tax return or an income tax payment due April 15, 2020 an automatic postponement to July 15, 2020. There is no limit on the amount of the payment that may be postponed, unlike the prior announcement. Forms and instructions are available at www.irs.gov and michigan.gov/treasury

Wi-Fi

Our Wi-Fi connection can be accessed from the Library’s parking lot 24/7. Remember that proximity to the building and the number of users connected affect connectivity.

Programs

All programs are cancelled through mid-May.

Poetry Leaves

The deadline for submitting poems has passed. The 2020 Poetry Leaves Exhibit is postponed. The exhibit could potentially go up this fall, but if that is not achievable, the exhibit may be cancelled for this year. The adult contemporary edition of the print volume is currently in development. We will possibly have the kids’ volume of poetry available later this year. Friends of the Library Book Sale and Used Book Drop-off Days

The April 4 & 5 Used Book Sale has been cancelled. There was no April Donation Drop-off Day as it would have fallen on Easter weekend. The May Donation Drop-off Day has been cancelled as well since there is no storage space available. 

5K Event

The Friends 5k Committee is working to reschedule the Book It event in the fall. Date and time is yet to be determined.
